Vestibular problems— 5 symptoms




*A general feeling of unsteadiness or imbalance
*Walking turn your head and lose balance or stagger
*Experience dizziness in certain positions, Lying down dizziness, roll over, bend over, looking up
*Sensitivity to busy surroundings
*Veer off straight line when turning head

Most common vestibular problems- BPPV- Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
Benign- not related to any condition or pathology (little crystal rolling around inside the ear, out of place- floats into circular canal)
Paroxysmal- symptoms come and go
Positional- varies on position of head
Vertigo- false sense of motion when you’re standing still

50% dizziness has an inner ear component
People in their 50’s & 60’s get it the most, women more than men, car accidents , concussions, veterans

Seek vestibular specialist- vestibular.org for help

Inner ear screening- 85-90% only takes one session for recovery

3 tips to manage vertigo-
*Safe area to stabilize yourself, chair, couch, lean on wall, spread feet
*Stop moving head, stare at vertical line- reducing stimulation of vestibular system
*Relax and breathe, we begin having anxiety and makes symptoms worse
