The Ground Floor~Strengthening the Pelvic Floor
The pelvic floor muscles play a crucial role in urinary continence, as well as stabilizing the abdominal organs and core stability. Pelvic floor dysfunction is related to the muscle imbalances of the pelvic floor.
These muscle imbalances can manifest as hypotonic (too little tension- weak or stretched) or hypertonic (too much tension- too tight).
Either issue can cause a multitude of problems, such as incontinence, urinary urgency, organ prolapse and pelvic pain.
Aging and childbirth are the two most common reasons for mild incontinence.
1 in 3 women in the U.S. will suffer from some form of pelvic floor dysfunction at
some time in their lives.
Taking a proactive approach by identifying ,strengthening, and balancing the muscles
of the pelvic floor as well as the supporting muscles of the transverse
abdominus can greatly improve the health of the pelvic floor.
